Summer & Water Safety Tips

Be sure to wear protective sun screen while outside swimming, bbq’ing, or playing at the park. Re-apply as necessary! Bring pop-up shade shelters, hats, and sunglasses for added protection!
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’re planning on being in the sun.
Even if lifeguards are present, you (or another responsible adult) should stay with your children.
Be a “water watcher” – provide close and constant attention to children you are supervising; avoid distractions including cell phones.
Teach children to always ask permission to go near water.
Children, inexperienced swimmers, and all boaters should wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets
Always make sure there is sober supervision at the pool even if there is a lifeguard, appoint someone specifically so nothing goes miscommunicated; keep younger children within arms reach!
Keep a watchful eye on drink coolers. As the ice melts, these items can become a drowning hazard for curious toddlers who look in the cooler and are unable to get themselves out.
Drink alcoholic beverages responsibly, DO NOT DRIVEif you’ve been drinking, and be sure to drink plenty of water since alcohol can dehydrate you.
If you plan on drinking, be sure to have alternate transportation planned out ahead of time.
Always have a swim buddy, and never swim under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
