Holiday Safety Tips
For the travelers:
Be sure to do a basic safety check on your vehicle.
If you're driving in colder temperatures, especially during winter, be sure to winterize your car.
Get a good night's sleep the night before.
Stop if you get tired.
Put your phone out of reach while driving.
Let someone know what route you're taking, and check-in during rest stops.
For the decorators:
Examine all cords and lights prior to plugging them in.
If you're using a ladder of any kind, even a small step ladder, have another person there to spot you to avoid falling.
Do not climb on top of roofs if there is frost or dew, as this increases the risk of a slip and fall.
Avoid placing breakable ornaments, or ones with small pieces in areas where children can reach them.
Never nail, tack or stress wiring when hanging lights and keep plugs off the ground away from puddles and snow.
Always turn off all lights and decorations at night or when you leave the home.
Watch for Fire Starters
Use flameless candles or diffusers instead of flame candles to reduce the risk of fire.
Never place fire lit candles in areas where children can reach them, or in areas they could tip and fall easily.
Always have a screen around a fire place.
Never leave any flame unattended under any circumstance.
Clean and clear chimney prior to use.
